COLUMBIA — The S.C. Chamber of Commerce’s political action committee on Tuesday endorsed Roy Maybank in next week’s runoff election against Sandy Senn for state Sen. Paul Thurmond’s open seat.
The S.C. Good Government Committee called Maybank a clear choice.
“Roy Maybank understands what it takes to reduce the size and scope of government, find a long-term solution for our roads, and promote policies that allow for the private sector to create jobs,” the organization said in a press release.
Senn received nearly 40 percent of the vote last week’s four-way race with Maybank pulling in about 23 percent.
The two candidates split endorsements Monday from the other two hopefuls in last week’s primary. Former candidate Culver Kidd backed Maybank, while Tim Mallard endorsed Senn.
The Charleston County Republican Party is hosting a debate Tuesday night of the two candidates at the College of Charleston beginning at 7 p.m. The location is the Wells Fargo Auditorium at 5 Liberty St. The public is invited.
